Happiness is everyone’s most valued yet elusive emotion.
It’s the quality we wish for our children, our friends, and sometimes even ourselves.
Why is happiness so elusory?
Oftentimes, it’s because we have no idea what makes us happy.
Think about the last time you felt happy — when currency/electricity was coursing through your body, and you were filled with a sense of awe and gratitude.
• What were you seeing?
• What were you feeling?
• What were you hearing?
• What were you tasting?
The more clear you are, the more you can take a small sweet step towards it.
Where is your happy place? Do share! I’d love to hear from you!
Wishing you happiness and grace always!
Happy takes us on a journey from the swamps of Louisiana to the slums of Kolkata in search of what really makes people happy.
Every month on a Thursday morning, I set aside time to visit Lake Shrine, a meditation garden nestled in the Pacific Palisades.
Since COVID, you need to make reservations ahead of time, a mild technical detail in exchange for quiet solace. I went with my entrepreneur friend and coach Margalit who is always such an inspiration to be around.
Where do you go to get inspired? Make time for your happy place every month! It will make all the difference in the world!
The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World
Nobel Peace Prize Laureates His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu have survived more than fifty years of exile and the soul-crushing violence of oppression. Despite their hardships—or, as they would say, because of them—they are two of the most joyful people on the planet.
We get to listen as they explore the Nature of True Joy and confront each of the Obstacles of Joy—from fear, stress, and anger to grief, illness, and death. They then offer us the Eight Pillars of Joy, which provide the foundation for lasting happiness. Throughout, they include stories, wisdom, and science. Finally, they share their daily Joy Practices that anchor their own emotional and spiritual lives.
